Coronavirus - Job Retention Scheme Email Scam

Fraudsters are reported to be exploiting the scheme by sending a phishing email pretending to be from HMRC in order to steal your bank account details.

The first reported emails have several typos and ask for the bank details of the recipient in order for them to make a claim.  In these uncertain times these emails can appear realistic and we would urge everyone to be extremely cautious.  HMRC have reiterated their advice that they will never ask for credit card or bank details by email.

If you are waiting for a bank payment by HMRC then please log into your Government Gateway account to check the status and do not use the link in these emails.

If you receive this type of email, please delete it and report it to phishing@hmrc.gov.uk
