How to avoid your smartphone being hacked

  • Don’t open videos from people you don’t know well
  • Don’t put off installing app updates or ignore operating system updates
  • Don’t forget to put a PIN on your phone
  • Don’t download apps from anywhere other than official app stores, but even then some slip through so double-check
  • Don’t leave wifi and Bluetooth on all the time – hackers tap the connection between your phone and the services it uses, siphoning off data such as usernames and passwords
  • Don’t forget to install antivirus
  • Don’t give your phone to anyone to use
  • Don’t reuse passwords
  • Don’t have all your money in the bank account you use for Apple Pay or contactless payments
  • Don’t give access to unofficial outlets
  • Don't assume an iPhone means you are more secure
