CORONAVIRUS - VAT payments

CORONAVIRUS - VAT payments due after 30 June 2020 should be paid

Payments of VAT due between 20 March and 30 June could be deferred until 31 March 2021 as part of the Government support for businesses. The VAT return still needed to be filed.

It has been confirmed that this does not extend to payments due after 30 June and that the VAT return and payment are expected to be made within the usual timeframe. This will affect all taxpayers with a VAT return quarter end on or after 31 May 2020.

If you have cancelled your direct debit for the previous payment you must re-instate it if you want the extra 3 days grace that paying by direct debit gives. You should ensure that the direct debit it is established at least 3 working days before you submit the return. If you do not wish to set up a new direct debit you should ensure payment is set to clear the HMRC bank account by the 7th of the month.
